Briefing
My time working remotely at Porsche AG.

Over the fall of 2021, I worked remotely with Stuttgart Media University and Porsche AG as part of my co-op practicum. Getting the chance to work with my team on More Sustainable Production, and expanding my skills as a Product Designer, was an amazing experience.

I mainly collaborated with designers and AI researchers to develop product surfaces, as well as Porsche Product Managers and Professors from Stuttgart University. My project was mainly centred on evaluating the production process and helping Porsche production workers develop more efficient sustainability practices in waste disposal.

My work is currently under NDA, so please reach out to me for more details.

What I learned
Understanding the Project Scope
On the basis of the materials I was reading, my project seemed very large at first. I had no idea how or where to contribute my design efforts. I had to create my own project brief, breaking down the tasks further, so I could better understand them. Over the course of learning and researching throughout the timeline, I became more adept at narrowing down the scope of the project and identifying its core issues.
Accommodating to Timezones
Given that our team was international and that everyone had to work remotely during the pandemic, it was really hard to meet synchronously. However, I learned that it was sometimes more efficient to break down the team into pairs or smaller groups to help make responsibilities and tasks more manageable.
Trusting My Abilities
Getting over the imposter syndrome I had when I first joined the team was difficult. I felt like everyone around me had so much knowledge and ideas, which refrained me from speaking up. While my team helped me overcome this by showing me how valuable they thought my contributions were, this is something that I will continue to work on.
